Strathbogie Ranges Victoria Australia
This 20 acre property was acquired by Jenny Houghton in 1994, for its viticulture potential and as a location for her bed and breakfast cottage. Three acres was hand planted in 1997 into a light sandy loam. It is ideally situated in the Strathbogie Wine Region right on the border with the Goulburn Valley.
Planting has increased to 6 acres; 2 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and 4 acres of Shiraz. Strict viticultural policy with pruning, spraying and hand picking has achieved the required low yield per vine. This has consistently produced small berries of intense colour and flavour.
The altitude of 200 metres, combined with the light sandy loam and intensive monitoring, has produced grapes that enable a wine of elegance and complexity to be produced.
Maygars Hill 2017 Rosé
The response to our Rosé has been overwhelming!
At $18 a bottle, it is proving to be a very popular addition to our range of award winning wines.
The Rosé has been handcrafted from our award winning Shiraz vines from the foothills of the Victorian Strathbogie Ranges. We hand-picked at 12.5 Baumé and 1.5 tonnes to the acre and only briefly left the juice on the skins.
A floral nose, crisp on the palate and is pretty dry at 4.6g/L of sugar.
Enjoy lightly chilled.

James Halliday Wine Companion (2017) Reviews
2014 Cabernet Sauvignon - 95
Shares the fragrance and elegance of the Shiraz, although, of course, the flavours are very different. This is cool-grown cabernet, its acidity one of the cornerstones joining with fine tannins the other cornerstone. Not a normal show style, the Victorian Wine Show ?15 judges to be commended awarding it a gold medal.
2014 Reserve Shiraz - 95
You’d almost call this brooding and yet it also has an open faced drinkabilitity. It’s the girl- next-door with a PhD in the gravitational pull of grape matter. Blackberry, gum leaf, rich plums, black pepper. It’s quite some wine Screwcap. 14.5% alc. To 2032.

Maygars Hill Vineyard recently received a gold medal for both its Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon wines. October 2015
Both varieties were awarded gold medals at the recent Victorian Wines Show. Except for the Shiraz, which won a silver medal at the Great Australian Shiraz Challenge, both 2014 Maygar vintages appear to be equal in quality.

James Halliday writes...
“Outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity. Will have at least two wines rated at 95 points or above, and had a five-star rating for the previous two years. 282 wineries, 10%”
